Out and about in the community

What's new?

As a Belmont leader, I have always been committed to going beyond the board room or auditorium and meeting with members of the community. I look forward to sharing with you my stories from Belmont events, talking with residents, and other news items.

PRESS RELEASE

I'm on the ballot!

The snow finally cleared, which allowed me to bring my nomination papers to the Town Clerk. Now, I'm on the ballot!

I am thrilled to be joined by my campaign chair and fellow Town Meeting Member — Amy Checkoway. Amy and I worked closely together as chair of the Select Board (me) and School Committee (Amy), and we look forward to sharing with you our vision for a well-managed and fair legislative branch.

Volunteering at the MLK Day Breakfast

I had a great time volunteering at the annual MLK Day Breakfast yesterday, one of my favorite Belmont events every year. As I greeted people at the check in table, I was reminded of how strong we can be as a community when we come together with a shared vision. Dr. Sophia Boyer shared Dr. King's inspiring message of unity, which urges us to love even the people we oppose because we share something in common with everyone.

Grand Opening for the New Library

The library grand opening was outstanding! Nearly 5,200 people came through the doors over two days, a real testament to Belmont's love of knowledge and community. I was the Select Board liaison to the Library Trustees for six years, and I am gratified that I could be part of the very large group of volunteers who made it happen. It was definitely a milestone worth celebrating!

Grand Opening for the New Rink

Finally, Belmont has a new rink! In the winter of 2023, as I voted to put the rink on the ballot, I observed that our decision was not between the old rink or a new rink, it was between a new rink or no rink. Now we have a multi-use facility that also supports events on Harris Field, and the rink was designed with an environmentally sensitive, "freon-free" refrigeration system. Plus, no more birds!
